چکیده

Choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVMs) rarely complicate toxoplasmic chorioretinitis and are managed by observation; antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory medication; laser photocoagulation; surgical excision; or photodynamic therapy, with variable outcomes. As occurs with CNVMs secondary to age-related macular degeneration, Toxoplasma gondii increases expression of hypoxia-inducible factor–1 in tissue cultures along with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy masquerading as neovascular age-related macular degeneration refractory to ranibizumab.

PURPOSE To report a neovascular age-related macular degeneration pattern refractory to ranibizumab. DESIGN Retrospective, observational case series. METHODS Between March and May 2009, cases with neovascular age-related macular degeneration refractory to ranibizumab were investigated with indocyanine green angiography. We identified 12 eyes of 12 patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopa...

Simultaneous Single Dexamethasone Implant and Ranibizumab Injection in a Case with Active Serpiginous Choroiditis and Choroidal Neovascular Membrane

Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents seem to be effective in choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV) in association with various entities of posterior uveitis. We herein report a 46-year-old woman who was treated with a simultaneous single intravitreal dexamethasone implant and ranibizumab administration for the treatment of unilateral extrafoveal CNV associated with...

Resolution of vitreomacular traction following intravitreal ranibizumab in cases of ocular toxoplasmosis with choroidal neovascularization

PURPOSE To present the occurrence of the resolution of vitreomacular traction following intravitreal ranibizumab in two patients with inflammatory choroidal neovascular (CNV) membrane with a background of ocular toxoplasmosis. METHODS Interventional case report. RESULTS A 21-year-old Caucasian woman and a 52-year-old Caucasian man both presented with vitreomacular traction with coexistent c...

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy in Caucasian patients with presumed neovascular age-related macular degeneration and poor ranibizumab response

AIMS To determine the prevalence of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in patients with presumed neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) who were considered poor responders to ranibizumab. METHODS Caucasian patients with suspected neovascular AMD, presumed to be choroidal neovascularisation, previously treated with ≥8 intravitreal injections of ranibizumab 0.5 mg (Lucentis; No...

Feasibility and efficacy of a mass switch from ranibizumab (Lucentis) to bevacizumab (Avastin) for treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

PURPOSE To assess the feasibility and potential obstacles of a departmental switch from ranibizumab (Lucentis, Genentech, South San Francisco, CA) to bevacizumab (Avastin, Genentech) for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). METHODS A total of 154 eyes treated for wet AMD with ranibizumab or bevacizumab were examined over a 10-month period. The treatment protoco...
